Adaware, a product of cybersecurity company Lavasoft, (formerly known as Ad-Aware) is designed to protect users from privacy-related threats and rogue applications of which the majority of users are not aware. It includes programs that alter your surfing habits, courses that block your browser’s start page and apps that display annoying advertisements at the most unsettling times. This free application also comes with many additional security features that will help you stay safe and keep your device working smoothly.
In our tests, adaware was able to identify the majority of the malware we put at it. However, it had trouble removing certain malware. The program comes with numerous useful extras like a privacy monitoring tool, a registry scanner, a file shredder and advanced monitoring of network. It’s worth noting, however, that adaware can’t provide quite as much protection as some of the industry’s leading antivirus tools.
The last time adaware participated in AV-Test lab tests, it managed to block only ninety-five. 4% of 0-day threats and 97% of known risks. They’re not bad, but they’re not anywhere near the top security suites.
Adware users who want to perform better, should look at alternatives. We suggest Kaspersky and Bitdefender both of which are well-known for their reliable performance in real-world tests. Some users may be disappointed that only users of the Pro and Total plans have access to online customer and technical support. The company does provide a variety of information scanguard and Frequently Asked Questions on its website, however.
